Thank you for your interest in the Altar Guild! For more information, please contact Juana Maria Olvera or email [email protected].
Our mission is to serve God and our parish by caring for all things necessary for the offering of the Holy and August Sacrifice of the Mass and other sacraments throughout the liturgical year. We have taken as our patron saint St. Zita of Lucca, a Virgin, Third Order Franciscan, and Patroness of Housekeepers and Domestic Servants. By her example of hard work done with great joy and diligence, we have learned to serve God through earnest fidelity to our state of life.
We meet together with Fr. Van Vliet on the third Saturday of every month after the 7:30 AM Mass and Rosary. Our pastor will then instruct us from a faith-related book, followed by a period of reflection, after which we discuss the formal agenda items.
We volunteer our time, talent and treasure as a service to God with devotion and dignity. We wash, iron, and mend the altar linens; maintain Eucharistic vessels, vestments, and candles; arrange flowers for the altar; and clean the sanctuary, sacristy, and the nave of the church each week.
For the upkeep of the sanctuary, sacristy, and nave, we have four teams of volunteers, with each team cleaning every four weeks. A check list with detailed procedures for cleaning each area is available to the teams.
We have ongoing sewing and mending projects (chapel veils, cassocks, surplices, altar linens, etc.). All new and experienced sewers are welcome to join in this endeavor. We periodically offer sewing classes to interested parishioners.
The Flower Committee purchases fresh flowers to arrange on the main altar each week and for other liturgical celebrations throughout the year. Fresh flowers are symbols of the Resurrection and joy, and remind us of God's creation and the beauty of His handiwork. They also represent life "that is sacrificed" and help us focus on Christ and His Sacrifice.
We are funded by the ongoing sale of chapel veils, votive candle offerings, and donations for flowers throughout the year. The Altar Guild accepts cash donations and/or donations of cleaning supplies at any time.
