On the first and last days of the calendar year, Holy Mother Church grants special opportunities to gain a plenary indulgence.
On December 31, a plenary indulgence can be obtained by the solemn recitation or chanting of the Te Deum in thanksgiving for the blessings of God during the year. On January 1, a plenary indulgence can be obtained by the solemn recitation or chanting of the Veni Creator Spiritus, a prayer invoking the Holy Ghost.
The usual conditions for a plenary indulgence to be gained are sacramental confession within 20 days, sacramental Communion on the day the indulgence is sought, prayers for the intentions of the Holy Father (an Our Father, Hail Mary, and Glory Be will suffice), and detachment from all sin, even venial. If these conditions are not met, the indulgence will be partial. Regina Caeli will have a Holy Hour from 11:30 p.m., December 31, 2024 to 12:30 am., January 1, 2025. The prayers will be chanted during this holy hour. The "Te Deum" will be recited or sung:
