Thank you for your interest in the "Shower of Roses" Virtue Program! For more information, please reach out to program coordinator Angela Hebert, [email protected].
Under the umbrella of the Shower of Roses, our goal is to provide young Catholic girls (ages 5-17) with an opportunity to gather and learn about their Catholic heritage, faith, and traditions, as well as other "womanly" traditions that may have faded from view.
In the spirituality of St. Therese the Little Flower, a simple path is better. It is hoped that within these groups, our daughters will learn what it means to be a Catholic girl and, eventually, a Catholic woman, whether she be called to the life of consecration to Our Lord, as a single woman, or as a wife and mother.
Shower of Roses includes four groups divided by age:
1. LITTLE FLOWERS (ages 5-7 years), studying Wreaths I and II of the Little Flowers program
2. LITTLE BLOSSOMS (ages 8-10 years), studying Wreaths III and IV of the Little Flowers program
3. MAIDEN'S WREATH (ages 11-13 years), studying Fr. Lasance's The Catholic Girls Guide
4. WREATH OF LILIES (ages 14-17 years), studying Fr. Lasance's The Catholic Girls Guide
Our meetings are held on the 2nd Saturday of each month from September through May. A typical meeting follows this general outline:
9:30- 9:45: Adoration
9:45- 10:30: Virtue lesson
10:30- 10:45: Snack time
10:45- 11:00: Etiquette lesson
11:00- 11:45: Activity (crafts, games, music, etc.)
11:45- Noon: Cleanup/Angelus
All families are encouraged to bring picnic lunches and join us after the Angelus to eat together and allow the girls the opportunity to play and socialize.
"An integral part of temperance," modesty protects the intimate center of the person, refusing to unveil what should remain hidden out of charity. As our meetings are on parish property and most especially before Our Lord in the Blessed Sacrament, our dress code policy adheres to the parish's policy, which is posted on the website and in the narthex.
True cooperation with real charity and open communication is necessary to ensure the success and enjoyment of our groups. Each of the four groups has a coordinator who sees that the following roles are rotated and filled each month:
1. MEETING HOSTESS/INSTRUCTOR-- A mother signs up each month to introduce and teach a specific virtue lesson.
2. SNACKS-- In an effort to release the hostess from a small but vital detail, one mother a month agrees to bring her group's snacks. The snacks could be something that fits the virtue or liturgical season. Please keep in mind any allergies that are listed for the group.
3. CRAFTS/ACTIVITIES-- While the hostess could do this job as well, one mother might really have a knack for this area and would make suggestions, provide instruction, materials, etc. Some meetings might have a special instructor, so this position would be available to assist with that instruction.
Thank you for your interest in our parish's Shower of Roses groups! We joyfully look forward to building relationships with you and your daughters this year.
